Biographie

Dr Bolender est originaire de Strasbourg où il a initialement obtenu son Doctorat en Chirurgie Dentaire. Il a par la suite débuté le programme de spécialité orthodontique de 3 ans à la Faculté de Chirurgie Dentaire de Strasbourg. Il a parallèlement obtenu un Certificat d’études supérieures en Orthopédie Dento-Faciale délivré par l’Université de Paris VII. Puis il a intégré l’Université de Harvard (Boston - Etats-Unis) où, après un programme à temps plein de 3 ans, il a obtenu un Master’s of Medical Sciences (M.M.Sc.) délivré par la Harvard Medical School et un Certificat en Orthodontie obtenu auprès de la Harvard School of Dental Medicine. A son retour des Etats-Unis, Dr Bolender a débuté son exercice privé et rejoint l’Université de Strasbourg où il a assumé les fonctions d’Assistant pendant 4 ans. Il a continué d’assurer par après des fonctions d’enseignement tant auprès des étudiants en Chirurgie Dentaire que des étudiants en spécialité orthodontique. Dr Bolender a rejoint fin 2006 le personnel enseignant de l’Université Henri Poincaré de Nancy et y a soutenu en 2008 une thèse de Doctorat d’Université en Science des Matériaux intitulée : Influence des variations de température rencontrées dans la cavité buccale sur les propriétés physiques des arcs orthodontiques à base de nickel-titane. Il a assumé de Septembre 2008 à Août 2012 les fonctions de Maître de Conférences des Universités - Praticien Hospitalier au sein du département d’Orthopédie Dento-faciale de la Faculté d’Odontologie de Nancy. Il a rejoint en Septembre 2012 l’Université de Strasbourg où il occupe ces mêmes fonctions. Il dirige depuis septembre 2014 la structure interne d’Orthopédie Dento-Faciale des Hôpitaux Universitaires de Strasbourg. Il est de plus depuis avril 2017 le responsable de l’Orthopédie Dento-Faciale à la Faculté de Chirurgie dentaire de Strasbourg où il enseigne à la fois aux étudiants en Chirurgie Dentaire et aux étudiants de spécialité orthodontique. Dr Bolender a été nommé en septembre 2017 par l’Agence Régionale de Santé, coordonnateur interrégional du Diplômes d’Etudes Spécialisées en Orthopédie Dento-Faciale de la Région Grand-Est. Dr Bolender est un des deux Diplomates français de l’American Board of Orthodontics (www.americanboardortho.com). Il a donné de nombreuses conférences en France et à l’étranger et a participé à de nombreux congrès internationaux en Europe, aux Etats-Unis et en Asie. Dr. Bolender exerce depuis plus de 30 ans et est membre de nombreuses sociétés scientifiques : la Société Française d’Orthopédie Dento-Faciale (http://www.sfodf.org/), l’European Orthodontic Society (www.eoseurope.org), l’American Association of Orthodontists (https://www3.aaoinfo.org/). Il est membre et le président pour les années 2022-2023 de la composante de la Côte Est des Etats-Unis de l’American Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists (https://angleeast.org/). Dr Bolender est reviewer des deux publications orthodontiques internationales suivantes : the Angle Orthodontist (https://meridian.allenpress.com/angle-orthodontist) et l’European Journal of Orthodontics (https://academic.oup.com/ejo).

Biography

Dr. Bolender hails from Strasbourg where he earned his D.D.S. degree. He subsequently started locally the 3-year part-time postdoctoral training in Orthodontics (CESCMO) at the University of Strasbourg and earned concomitantly a 1 year part-time certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Paris VII. He then earned after a 3 year full-time training in Orthodontics, a Master’s of Medical Sciences (M.M.Sc.) delivered by the Harvard Medical School and a Certificate in Orthodontics from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (Boston, U.S.A.). Upon returning to France, Dr. Bolender opened his private practice and joined the faculty of the University of Strasbourg where he held an Assistant position during a 4 year-period. He has since remained a part-time faculty member, teaching to undergraduate and postdoctoral students. In late 2006, Dr. Bolender joined the faculty of the University of Nancy. Dr. Bolender defended there in 2008 his doctoral thesis intitled: “Influence of variation of oral temperature upon physical properties of nickel-titanium orthodontic archwires” and earned subsequently a Ph.D. in Material Sciences from the University Henri Poincaré of Nancy. He has been holding from September 2008 to August 2012 a position of Associate Professor at the Orthodontic Department of the University of Nancy. He joined in September 2012 the University of Strasbourg where he is holding the equivalent position. Dr Bolender became the head of the orthodontic department at the University Hospitals of Strasbourg in September 2014. He became in April 2017 chairman of the orthodontic department of the School of Dental Surgery at the University of Strasbourg. Dr Bolender was appointed in 2017 by the Regional Health Agency regional coordinator of post-graduate programs in Orthodontics for the East of France area. Dr. Bolender is one of the two French Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics (www.americanboardortho.com) and has been extensively lecturing in France and abroad and communicating in numerous international meetings in Europe, the U.S.A and Asia. Dr. Bolender has been in practice for 31 years and is a member of numerous professional organizations among which the Société Française d’Orthopédie Dento-Faciale (http://www.sfodf.org/), the European Orthodontic Society (www.eoseurope.org), the American Association of Orthodontists (https://www3.aaoinfo.org/). He is a member and the 2022-2023 president of the Eastern Component of the American Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists (https://angleeast.org/).
